Send a clear message to Utah officials on data centers
We need residents to keep pressure on local and state officials
to restrict data center development.
On May 29th 2026, Governor Cox announced an executive order suggesting he would reign in data centers in Utah after massive public outcry about the Box Elder County data center plans came to light.
However, since then we’ve seen multiple data center development plans advance.
In an alarming new development, the EPA just announced they want to keep the public in the dark about how much pollution data centers and their power plants emit. They want to let states dodge public input, or even inform the public about the pollution permits required.
Combined with the EPA proposal, that would allow developers to start construction without an air quality permit, the White House is going all in to force feed AI data centers upon communities whether they want them or not.
Some data center proposals, such as the one for Tooele County, are slated to be in Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA) project areas.
UIPA was created by the Utah legislature and uses tax differentials to support development projects.
This means that tax money can be used to encourage and entice data center developers.
Public pressure on Utah officials needs to be clear and loud.
Across the country, in blue states and red states, politicians from both political parties are calling for moratoriums, establishing strict energy and water limits or are conducting audits of data center proposals.
Utah needs to release a full report and audit of the data centers already in the state, and proposed data centers, so the public has a clear answer to how much energy and water these developments are using, and what they’re costing the state.
NO public money should be used to subsidize data center development. No more deals with Big Tech or their developers behind closed doors, no more non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), no more shutting the public out of the decision making, no more accepting what developers say without independent verification.
